Y479DRU - My old 2001 GTi

Anyone on here own it these days?

I sold it in 2012 and just wondered how it was getting on really!

Re: Gearbox gone today

Managed to get it to the garage this morning, the noises were horrific  Had it confirmed that the box has gone....could be the end of the road for me and my GTi  I just don't think I'm up for putting another recon box in, especially as it was due to go in tomorrow for a suspected air com...

Gearbox gone today

It stinks of gas!

Hopefully I can still get it to the garage tomorrow (6 miles away).

Re: Odd noise - Possible gearbox? - Update

Update - The noise occurs when I switch the aircon off, it really is a horrendous noise, but hopeful it's something less important than the gearbox :D

Odd noise - Possible gearbox? - Update

I've heard a very strange noise coming from my GTi recently, the best way to describe it is that when I was waiting in traffic (stationary) I thought the noise was coming from the the house next to me that was covered in scaffolding! It sounded like something hard being hit with a hammer  It's ...

Re: my new little toy

Be careful because I'm pretty sure a wash/wipe system is required (for Xenons) in order to pass an MOT.....a new addition this year.

Re: Engine management light, PO116 code.. need advice

I had my earthing cable replaced at VW the other day.....car runs like a dream now.

Beforehand the Engine Management light would come on intermittently, the car would be "jumpy" at low revs, and I got an error code on VAG-Com (although not the samer as the one you have).

GTi in garage, 6R courtesy car...

My GTi was in the garage for a couple of days recently (electrical issues - All sorted now!). Anyway, I had a 6R 1.4 Match as a courtesy car.....I couldn't believe how much I prefer mine to the new model. OK I know mine's quicker but I genuinely couldn't wait to get mine back, and it put a smile on ...
