Boot lock / fuel filler lock failures

Hi all, Used to post fairly frequently many years ago on the 9n3 forum, hoping for a bit of advice with a friends 6R so thought I'd come back! Got what appears to be the reasonably common boot lock failure - won't open by lifting the emblem handle or by holding the boot release on the fob (although ...

Re: Retrofit Multifunction MK5 GTI wheel WITH Multifunction?

You can reuse the airbag as it's the same but the multifunction wheel is a no-go I'm afraid - there isn't the facility for it in the head unit

Re: Cruise control fitting kit

I don't know about the process of routing a wire to the ECU but I've fitted this a few years ago and, although a bit fiddly, it is doable. With the steering wheel off and the CCM/relay panel dropped down a bit you can get your arm in so long as you aren't too built... It's a hassle since you can't s...

GTi Poor Fuel Economy

Hi all, Hoping someone can give me a birt of advice on some recent issues I've been having with poor fuel economy on my GTi. I've gone from getting around 400 miles from a tank on the motorway to about 250ish. Worse in town. Unmodified engine. No warning lights on the dash and the only fault code is...

Dunno about aftermarket, but VW say you can't have one on a GTi. Page 11 of this: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/comm ... celist.pdf

Re: Electrical Problem? (Polo 9N3)

Do these symptoms only happen when the engine is idle/low speed stuff or when you're at speed as well? If it's just on idle I'd be inclined to think there might possibly be an alternator fault. Does the battery light ever come on? The car turns stuff off like ABS, power steering etc in a sequence to...

Re: Lower grill gti

If you're replacing it with another one then you might find it easier to cut it out by cutting through some of the horizontal slats first. Otherwise it can be pretty tightly clipped on and cause the entire bumper around it to start flexing. That's what happened to mine anyway...

Re: OK daytime running lights now

So effectively all that you are doing by turning on the lights at night, is turning on the instrument lights. Meaning it's easy to forget, meaning you drive at night with no panel illumination.... Honestly, I've never understood this argument. With no panel lights, you can't see speed/amount of fue...

Re: Drum Brake Pantage!

Hammerite do a paint called Direct To Rust which is great for unprotected metal and is designed to be painted on rusty surfaces. A bit of surface prep mainly to get the loose rust off and that's all you need, a brass brush (like a toothbrush) is ideal. Yeah, I used this on mine as well when I had d...

Re: Thinking of selling up, one of those "what's it worth" p

I'm still undecided David. I think I've just gotten slightly bored after six years! Seeing as it's still relatively standard (even the wheels!), playing about with it might rekindle some interest. Always been meaning to do an engine build which would end up doubling stock power and cost maybe £500 ...

What? You're selling up? It'll be a shame to lose you from the forum Ash, always been a fan of your posts...

Any ideas what you'll be replacing it with?

Re: Interior Light intermittent (above rear view mirror)

If you pop the lens cover off you should be able to see two screws that you'll need to undo before you can pull the light unit out to get to the wiring. Hopefully its simple like something's just worked loose... Is it intermittent when you open the door or if you just try and turn it on?
