I gave my gti back because of a similar issue. Mechatronic unit was meant to be problem - I don't know he exact issue because the dealer replaced the box and unit on VW's instructions. In all honesty, I not think they knew the exact issue, just chucked new bits at at it.

Nice. Revo were telling me that most of the oil consumption issues are caused by the stock map and plugs creating the misfires, causing bore wash. Which results in the oil blowing by the rings.
