Re: Thoughts on the usefulness of fuel additive G001770A2
Fuel additive are useless, except to burn you money. Due to DI (direct injection) carbon build up can't be removed with this kind of additive. To remove carbon build up, you have to remove air intake and manually clean the valves. For cleaning injector, why not but, with no visual inspection it's h...

I had never thought of my 1.4 BBY powered Polo S in those terms but I'll let it take the credit

Re: Old VW antics
the fuel filler flap has got a bit of spring in it (from somewhere) and now needs to be held in to be locked (on the key).

Re: 5w40 or 5w 30
I have been using Mannol 0W40 (7719) which meets 502 and 505 spec in my 1.4. It seems to suit the car nicely and has improved drivability from cold starts and the mpg. I was slightly concerned that the lighter weight would increase oil consumption but have found that is not the case. Originally I us...

Re: Reversing sensors
I see the sensors but not the wiring. Not sure if my old 2002 has a connector.

Reversing sensors
I plan on fitting some reversing sensors to the Polo. The products are so cheap now. Does anyone have any experience with any particular product and/or fitting?

Re: Old VW antics
Recent fuel consumption calculated at 45mpg (60/40 highway/urban). Knocking has not been such an issue this summer, possibly due to the milder temps.

I purchased a can of Motip Stone Chip Spray and it seems to have done the job well.

Re: Gearbox leaking oil
There is a large bung plug at a low point on my 2002 1.4BBY auto. When I was planning for a ATF drain and refill I wondered about it and was similarly hesitant to remove it. Not really sure of its purpose but I did remove it and measured the ATF that came out. The main ATF sump plug on the auto is u...

Re: Old VW antics - updates
No 'whoosh' sound when opening the petrol filler cap. No warning buzzer when sidelights left on (some of the time) I'm not convinced that I always notice a "whoosh" when removing the fuel cap to refuel, but I maybe just guessing that bit. No warning buzzer when side lights are on and you ...

Re: Old VW antics
Update. When switching on side position lamps while engine is running/under way, the instrument cluster LEDs dim. Is this not intentional? For instance when you need headlights(side position lights on their own are not legal in UK if you are moving) on the ambient lighting level is lower and so if ...

Re: Old VW antics
Gear position indicator LED segment not illuminating completely. I thought I had fixed this with the removal of the instrument panel and re-soldering of prime suspect joints.
