Noisy fan and loss of pressure.

I just read about the dreaded banshee wail comin from the heater in someone's breadvan. What is it and how do you fix it because I think I may have it goin on in mine. Amongst other things. It's also losing pressure somewhere. Plays up on long journeys on the motorway. I put my foot to the floor on ...

Re: Keepin it cool

Excellent. I'll get on and do that. I know I can get the thermostat and water pump on ebay but where's a good place to get the radiator bits? Thanks by the way.

Keepin it cool

Had my mk2 bready for 6 months now and still lovin it. Despite the fact it's december and colder than a witches t*t, my engine still seems to get pretty warm when just bimblin around town at 30mph. The temp gauge seems to rest at about the halfway mark, but climbs up pretty quickly if sat for even a ...

faster bready.

Got myself a 1045, '83 breadvan which I absolutely love. I'm looking to beef it up but keep it looking as stock as possible, ( maybe tart it a little. Wheels, sexy seats and paint job,) and not kill myself. I just read somewhere that a 1300-1600 bike engine is a potential upgrade. I'm not a mechanic ...

Re: Help!!!

amayzun! I'll find out what's in place for sure and add getting that fiddled with to my ever growing to-do list. I'll check the petrol tank when i get it up to do some other stuff to it on friday. Thanks again gents. Any other info/advice you can give about anything else on my beige beast would be ...

Re: Help!!!

So the current carb will be fine until I can beg/borrow/steal a weber. Good to know. I'll ask around about the distributor. Someone out there must have the answers. How do you go about tuning a carburettor? And what does that do? Better fuel consumption? Is it harder with a manual choke? Cheers guys.

Re: Help!!!

ritey ho. I'll have a snoop around under the bonnet on my day off. Thanks for all this info by the way. I really appreciate it. So if the weber carb isn't that great, is it worth just stickin with the stock one or is the pierburg one a better investment? I've found a brand new electronic distributor ...

Re: Help!!!

Is that the big-ass fan behind the radiator? If I'm honest, that whole bit looks a bit beat up. If I get chance, I will just replace the whole thing. I'll check it tomorrow to see if it spins and stuff though. Out of curiosity, what's so good about the weber carbs? Why do dubheads rave about them?

Re: Help!!!

The exhaust does have a wee hole in but just needs patching up for now. The droning sound seems to be made by the engine. Think it may just be that it's a 27 year old engine and it's working. Doesn't seem to affect how it runs. I'll start looking for a 5 speed gearbox. Are the early marks all pretty ...

Re: Help!!!

Girlfriend used to drive an old beetle. Gave me a tip for cooling the engine by putting the heater on to get the hot air out of the engine bay. Seems to work quite nicely. But I do get warm nuts as a biproduct. :|

Re: Help!!!

That's brilliant. Given me loads to check out. The g-ladersite website was a bit of a bugger but I think I found what I was looking for. I also found the webcon one. Not sure which carb to go for as they didn't seem to make anything between 1983 and 1985. Mine's an 84. I'm eyein up a set of ats ...

Re: Help!!!

That's awesome. Thanks again. Any advice on a parcel shelf? I've read about stealth shelves but not really fussed about the speaker holes in them. Also. are there any parts from other cars that are interchangeable? Like the parcel shelf from a mk1 golf for example? I know that would be the wrong ...

Re: Help!!!

Awesome. Thanks chaps. I asked about putting alloys on it and a mechanic mate said it would ruin the track rod end. He thought I was looking to put massive ones on it. All I want is to make the handling better. It would be a cheeky bonus if it looked good too obviously. Any suggestions on where to ...
