Why don't you give it for a rebuild? Costly, but it will feel and work like new if its done correctly.

I'm pretty sure its not the pedal box as long as you don't hear anything while pressing down the pedal. I would replace the cable. If nothing changed i would drop the box a.) change the sleeve and most importantly b.) check the clutch lever to the point where its welded with the cylinder that moves ...

There's a slight chance that you haven't installed properly the thermostat. Before putting it in you have to push the needle against a wall or something just to make sure it is all the way in. Unless you have a gti, which you don't, this is the correct one.

Doesn't matter. Both get the same part.
The thermostat you're looking for is the 032121110B and i would strongly advise to get a genuine vw part.
