Think it's only two wires for the footwell lights from memory actually, a ground and a positive. I used t-tap connectors yeah, much easier, I usually like to solder everything to make it look OEM but it's a bit tight up there really. Bet you're like me then, wrapping all your wiring in Tesla black ...

As James knows, I have done this mod in my Polo 6R GTi.
It is quite simple but Kufatec's instructions suggest a pin on the CECM that you can tap into, only problem for me was it left the footwell lights on all the time with key in ignition / driving which I didn't like.
