Reason VW won't make the Polo GTi any quicker out the box, is because they don't want it to sit too close to the Golf GTi in terms of performance.

Which just leaves it overpriced and underspecced in the UK hot-hatch market.

This is basically the problem. Renault are about to release the Clio192 ...

It's a shame but as other people have said it's just too expensive to justify spending £15k on. You only need to look at what else you can buy in terms of performance/size/specification for that kind of cash and you'll realise how bad a deal it is. For example:-

Focus ST225 - £17.5k
New Clio ...

Count yourself lucky! Speedo needle on my old Polo fcuked up but rather than just stopping working it started reading about 15 mph slower than I was actually going. Damn lucky not to have gotten any points

You've gotta think that the Sun's gotta be careful what they say about Chav's as they probably account for a large percentage of it's readership so dont expect an accurate definition from them

Question 18

Do you read the:-

Daily Star - 5 Points
The Sun - 3 Points

I know it's supposed to be retro but you'd think for £20k they could at least have been bother to paint the side skirts and front/rear bumpers

Bloody hell. You'll be around £22k by the time you get metallic paint, leather interior and tick a couple of option boxes  That's kinda steep for a front wheel drive Golf given the amount of other seriously nice motors you could buy in the same price bracket :?

Never had any probs with my windows but my rear brakes seemed to seize without fail every year regardless of mileage and end up costing me £100 a time to fix  Spoke to my neighbour who owns a Golf and he's had similar problems. Seems to be a fairly common problem unfortunately.

I remember 5th gear did a race with the exact 2 same cars round the track last series and the result was the same. Mind you the mini's only putting out about 110 bhp vs the Fabia's 130bhp. It'll be really interesting to see how the 2 new Diesel and Petrol Ibiza Cupra's compare on a track in terms of ...

I'd recommend Tesco or DirectLine. They're really good for younger drivers. If you can get full NCB then you'll only be about £400 fully comp a year for it even if you are only 23. It seems to be the case that age doesnt matter so much these days as long as you;re over 21 with a couple of years no ...

Yeah. It's normal as far as I know. Mine did it since I had it from new so I think it's just a 'feature' of the gear box rather than anything to do with the pedal box issue.

So in Summary Compared to the standard Polo:-

It's looks like about as camp as a suzuki vitara
It's got pants performance
It's got worse handling thanks to the raised suspension
It gets worse MPG
And it costs £3k more for the 'priveldge' of having all of the above

So where do I sign up for one ...

SilvaGTi signing off

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the advice and banter over the last 3 years. I've just traded my silver Y-reg Polo GTi in for a shiny new cosmic grey Civic Type-R.

I'm sure I'll be back occasionally to see how everyone's getting on though!

If anyone in the Dundee area's after a tidy low ...
