Dipped my wheels with black plasti dip a while back, gives a really good finish with not much effort to be honest, peels off easily enough (don't be shy with the amount you apply, the thicker the coats, the easier it is to peel if you don't like it) Thinking of maybe a full car dip some time soon :l...

Won't cause any issues if you leave it off, i had the exact same thing happen on my old 6n, makes no difference really.
