Re: Rear axle bushes polo 9n 1.2
I have replaced the rear axle bushes a few years ago. After removing the axle bolt you will need to lower the rear suspension then lever down the rear axle. I had to drill out the bushing material and then hammer out the old bushes. To install the new bushes what I can remember you can only install ...

Re: Radiator water leak
That is the radiator fan switch ( it will monitor radiator coolant temp and switch on the fan if necessary). You can try to tighten the switch slightly with a spanner as this is how it is installed/removed, but obviously do not over tighten. There is a washer between it and the radiator I think it's...

Re: Help diagnosing anti roll bar problem.
This problem is common on all 9N Polos, and I'm surprised your anti roll bar has lasted with the plastic end pieces. The solution is to replace the anti roll bar with a new updated anti roll bar that contains metal ends that won't snap. Mine was changed a good few years ago and it meant having to lo...

Re: Timing Belt Replacement - Do you change studs ?
My belt runs fine, no tracking to the left and the Camshaft position Sensor fault no longer appears on code reader. My car is a AMF 1.4 TDI PD diesel, I assume you are referring to your post on 'belts tracking to the left'. I believe your car is a BBY and the cambelt kit is different to mine and you...

Re: why is the timing belt tracking to the left?
On looking at the first photo, is it just me or does it look like the tensioner retaining arm is not seated properly below the flange bolt as it seems to sit on the bolt instead of sitting below the flange bolt.
Is that the way it is supposed to be ?

Re: Timing Belt Replacement - Do you change studs ?
UPDATE: I have completed all the work and the car seems to run fine. Initially my cheap code reader kept telling me Cam Shaft Position Sensor 19463 P3007 G40, as a DIYer I don't have VCDS. I have had the car from new and this is only the 2nd cam belt change it has had and has done 204000 miles. I ch...

Timing Belt Replacement - Do you change studs ?
Hi I am going to replace my timing belt next week as well as pulleys and water pump. My kit (INA 530020133) also contains 2 studs, one for the Tensioner and one for the idler pulley, some kits don't. Do people change the studs or not bother as I have seen conflicting advice and INA have a video on e...

Whiteness on Engine Oil Filler Cap
I have only driven my car once a week to supermarket since mid December, and that only involves a 5 minute drive each way. When I serviced my car last week I noticed a small amount of white oil/moisture under the engine oil filler cap when removed. There is and has not been any of the same in the su...

Re: 1.4 TDI what's your mileage?
Mine has 200350 miles on it, and have had it from new (2003), always used Quantum Platinum 5W/40.
I believe this is what VW use and recommend.
Engine has always been reliable and have never had any engine problems, always done an annual service, and repaired myself.
Buy parts from AVS Car parts.

Re: 1.9TDI Coolant leak
I have a 1.4TDI and it uses the same coolant pipes as yours, if you check, the rubber hoses will connect to a metal pipe system which goes into a bracket held by a single bolt then into heater matrix, this is probably where the leak is (it was on mine) . I had to replace two rubber o-rings (N9089050...

Re: Replacing shifter cable end bushings
Bepis I have replaced bushings on my 02R gearbox from Dieselgeek, although I did not need to drill the hole at the side as just replacing the side to side. The bush was accessed on the left was all I needed to do. It did feel a lot better afterwards with a lot more 'spring' in the return. You will n...

Inner rods Or Rack
I have a 2003 9N 1.4 TDI AMF. I have excessive tyre wear on both the inside and outside of both front tyres. When turning slowly over a bumpy surface a slight knocking noise can be heard. I lifted the front of the car off the floor and wobbled the left wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock and it clunks more tha...

Sump gasket replacement
Hello I haven't posted for a while looking for advice, but here goes. I have a 2003 1.4 TDI AMF and have had the car from new. I have noticed that the sump is leaking oil from the gasket. I believe it is a paste type gasket, however my main concern is, do I have to remove the gearbox on this model a...

Re: dangerously slow front wipers
I have had this problem twice on my POLO 9N.
I had to take out the spindles which were seized and clean and grease them.
No Problem since.
See my posting about this as I also found a company which posted a video on what to do and parts for wiper linkages !
