don't know about the brake lights staying on, but WORD OF WARNING i do know that vw will try and rip you off when it comes to changing your clutch cable.. The cable costs 20 quid with all the brakets and everything built in, and i did it myself in about 15-20 minutes total.. My local VW garage wante...

These guys will do it as well - got a quote from them a while back for throttle boddies - they couldn't do them but quoted for a turbo.. I might be able to dig the price out from somewhere if you're interested..
