Hire Cars

I'm just about to get one for my insurance re-work (proof that you can get blood from a stone).. Ever broken one? I'm looking for inspiration, last one i got was to drive to south wales, so it went rallying in the forest of dean... Only managed to set the pads on fire though :( ... Who'd have though...

I think the xenons might be anything up to £800-900  but like ttaw2 says, they were standard on all UK GTis. There is a 2nd hand set up on ebay at the moment from memory starting price was £80 If I get chance I'll post the link up I think it was being sold by someone who was selling a lot ...

IIRC they're standard on UK cars, and most imports come with them as well..

Swap would be the only way if the car doesn't have em, i'd assume that there's a control unit for them somewhere for the autolevel and a stepup circuit to get the 10kV they need to work

IIRC my replacement (damn badger) was about £40..

Got it from local vw dealer as they had one in stock and were only a pound more expensive than anyone else..

Really easy to fit as well

IIRC they're illegal for cars after a certain year... I think you have to have a normal horn, and the air horn on a separate switch..

Might get some funny looks turning up at the MOT centre with a dukes of hazzard comedy number

Insurers aren't evil they're lovely warmhearted and helpful?

Anyone know if we can post our "glowing and positive" reviews of insurance companies... Don't you love sitting on a premium rate phone line all day, discussing whether it's the insurance companies liability to carry out work in a satisfactory manner - I know I do. It turns out is my fault ...

If you're gonna do that, then you might want to think about going down the scrappy to find one that sounds a bit better..

My bro got one out of a senator if my memory serves me correctly, and it sounded cool as pants (for a horn)

Didn't someone suggest smacking the bugger with a hammer a little while back :?: :?: At the end of the day, if it's really broken it can't break it any more than it already is... Oh, and if you can hear the relays clicking, then they aren't broken (IIRC it's when they're quiet that you've got a prob...

Mine would've been £165 from a specialist for the 40k (had the engine not eaten it's arse shortly before service), so £245 sounds about right for main dealer..

Hopefully my 50k won't be too much next month, only had the 40 in september

I use protheroes in Market Harborough 01858 465511.. They used to be a main dealer, but got dumped when they had a big cull a few years back.. Servicing prices are lower than VW, you'll get a stamp, and if you need any work done, their labour rates are much lower than main stealer. I don't work ther...

Depends what you wat mate - if you just want a better induction note the pipercross should be fine, if you want to go faster it looks like the bmc was the one you wanted.. Another thing to remember is that the BMC is twice the price of the Pipercross - if you can't sed it back it's not the end of th...
