I have a Lupo GTI and the thrust bearing is also on its way out after a blast round the track but it has been ok for nearly a year in its damaged state. Guess its a 5 speed box? Seems odd to be on its way out so soon. You might need a second opinion but yeah I reckon 500 quid would be about right.
