My SEAT has exactly the same problem. I think it's common with most VW boxes. I find I sometimes have to lift the clutch to get it into reverse. Also there is a sort if know mans land which is sort of in gear but sort of not! Lift the clutch there and crrrrnnnnchh! Done that a few times :( Still ...
