Possibly a stone chip caused a hole in the condenser, happened to my first 6r.

It's very easy to make it functional, but you need to run a lead from the box at the back of the radio to the aux socket, all explained here. viewtopic.php?f=56&t=67156

Right, sorry misread what you were trying to do, you're into Canbus magic there.

drop a wire down to the back of the 12v aux/cigarette lighter socket.

Exactly the same problem but was quoted £900 to fix, priced a condenser at £90ish from euro car parts, going to do it myself, just need to borrow a vac pump from work.

Are you trying to retrofit Composition media into a 6r ?

There's an article in this months Volkswagon Driver magazine on someone changing out a radio to DAB on a 2006 passat, should be a similar retrofit.
