Re: 1.4 petrol engine noise
Well someone has got it wrong, as far as I have read in recent months Castrol's contract was not renewed, Someone is crossing their wires. The 'Castrol contract' has nothing to do with the either the factory fill arrangement, nor the VW Group OEM lubricants R&D programme. The 'Castrol contract'...

Re: Sudden MPG change
Winter weather means denser air, which means a far more efficient burn and actually gives better fuel economy as less fuel is required to make the standard burn/combustion denser air means more oxygen per unit volume of air so more fuel will be needed to keep the afr right and it not run lean Diese...

Sam, thanks for the update. I would strongly recommend avoiding VW main dealers. Being able to touch your toes, and an ample supply of vaseline will be required! If you can search for a fellow forum member nearby who has VCDS and the Ross-Tech lead, and they will often gladly scan your car...

Obvious reply - the bulb? And don't mean for you to suck eggs - re-check the fuses - for two reasons. First, the fuse diagram in the owners handbook (or even worse, the HBOL), can sometimes be superceeeded. So for example, when first released, Fuse 10 (F10) might have been the fuse for say left main...

Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels
A2 is relevant to the quantity. It signifies a 500 ml bottle in this instance. As previous VW oils of various types have been A1, B3 etc denoting different quantities Correct. The VAG parts numbering system - with specific regards to fluids and lubricants - their alpha-numeric suffix has nothing to...

Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels
I've just been looking around various parts of Febi's website(s), trying to find a tie-up of 21829 with the OEM product and also with my particular Polo. Despite what you might have been told by Febi recently, alex, their website doesn't appear to be fully updated yet in this regard. That said, if ...

Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels
It was around 1st November when I decided to write to three different companies that sell gearbox oil - Febi Bilstein, Fuchs, and Comma Febi Bilstein do not develop nor make their own oils. They merely pick and choose existing brews, and have them repackaged as their own. Comma are without doubt th...

I realised my Optimax mistake shortly after posting! Before Tescos 99 brew was given the Momentum moniker, it was just called 'Tesco 99' - imaginative, eh? :P Crucial aspect of ethanol supply and inclusion - it must be from a biological (plant) source, rather than the traditional fossil fuel distill...

General acronyms RTFM - read the fcuking manual NSFW - not suitable for work - typically porn! HAND - have a nice day - taken from the over-used yet meaningless american salutation, when used on interweb, it is often meant with a strong degree of sarcasm STFU - shut the fcuk up, often used as a fri...

For board viewforum.php?f=19 - it should be 'powertrain'. One word, not even hyphenated, an not capitals either, because it isn't a noun!

Re: Supermarket or branded fuel? The age old discussion!
Ironically, the pioneers of bio-ethanol content was not any of the major oil companies. It was actually a small independent UK oil company by the name of Greenergy. They were original suppliers to Tesco, and developed their original 98 RON Tesco juice (I think it was called Optimax). Tesco then boug...

I seem to hear a lot about the guys with GTI running Pirelli P Zero and as they have an almost flawless rating on most sites I would think they are decent. I have Dunlop Sport Maxx on my Blue GT and they have been ok but I'm looking at Pirelli and would like input from anyone who has had/has these....
