Much of these problems come from the taillights or third brakelight.
You could also check the doors inner panel, sometimes the seal becomes porous and lets rainwater in the interior

Glad you got it out.
Try to put the screw back for the new barrel.

Re: Door lock barrels stuck on removal. Anyone had a similar issue.
No the screw is for retaining the barrel.
You could try to take the doorcard off and the inner panel.
Then try to push the barrel out from the inside.
Or try to remove the cover surrounding the barrel and use a plier to grab and pull the barrel.

Screw should have stayed in.
With the key in the barrel you can pull the barrel towards yourself.
You may have to wiggle a bit
There are numeroes YT video's on the subject.
Look for the golf 4 vids, these are essential the same locks

Maybe the beeper in the rear is covered by something that result in lower volume?
My FL AW has no problem with the sound volume front or rear, setting is about half way and loud enough

Re: Door lock barrels stuck on removal. Anyone had a similar issue.
You have to loosen the screw that holds the barrel in place. (above the doorlock screws same height as the lock)
DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW COMPLETELY!!!
Just use half turns whilst trying to move the barrel towards yourself
No need to remove the doorpanel

Sometimes they won't budge.
My old 9N3 2008 removed without issue,
My wife's old 9N3 2007 I had to pull out the old dremel.

Use a dremel to remove the nut.

Did they use the right oil in the recent servicing?
Because problem seems to disappear when oil is hot (and thin enough)

Re: Fuel consumption
I think he means that the car goes (i.e.) from D6 -> D, disconnecting the gear, so the car floats without restraint (or something)
Or with the 4 cilinder it could also mean ECO when using only 2 cilinders (ACT)
