Re: Number plate holders

I thought all U.K. models already came with holes? The picture of the red Polo above suggests that the current model comes with undrilled front and rear bumpers. Just waiting for stick on plates. I know Skodas have tapped bumper inserts, but you can obviously ignore such things and stick on smooth ...

Re: What did you and your 6R/C do today?

Over the last 2-3 days, I’ve been getting my car’s bodywork ready to cope with whatever the winter weather throws at it; two bucket method wash, full decontamination (iron fallout remover, tar remover, clay), wash, machine polish, sealant, clean glass, dress tyres and exterior black trim, polish chr...

Re: Insurance on a PCP car

If you do decide to get GAP insurance, I’d recommend you don’t buy the VW product as it’s horrendously expensive compared to what you’d pay elsewhere with the likes of ALA, Direct GAP, GAP insurance 123 etc.

Shop around and save yourself some money.

Re: Cambelt Change Interval

The cam belt is essentially a rubber belt and rubber deteriorates with age, irrespective of the car’s mileage. If it does fail, the resultant damage would cost much more than it would cost to replace the cam belt. I’m a firm believer of preventative maintenance, so I’d be getting it changed at some ...

Re: Interest rate drop on GTI

My initial thoughts, ( the drive home from the dealer , about 25 miles) were not as positive as yours ! Tyre noise , feel every bump , checked the tyre pressures this morning, they were all 10 psi too hard . Set a them to recommend figures the car is transformed. I was really worried for an hour!!!...

Re: My new 2013 blue silk Blue GT

That’s a massive improvement on the seats 👍. Even though you’ve covered up the worn carpet in the driver’s footwell, with my car OCD it would really bug me, knowing it’s in a bit of a sorry state. I’d be checking out the local car breakers to see if the had a better carpet that I could replace the w...

Re: Analogue dial lights

If they’re behaving as you describe, then there may be a fault. If you have concerns over the dealer using your car or damaging it while it’s in their possession, I d suggest you take a photo of the instrumentation showing the mileage when you drop it off at the dealers, plus take some pictures of t...

Re: Dipping Wing Mirror GTI+

Did you manage to get the drivers side to dip? I can only seem to do passenger which isn’t helpful as I park on the drivers side. I didn't unfortunately. Sure I read on here that only the passenger side dips. Ah well! As far as I know, it’s only the nearside mirror that dips, to help you avo...

Re: Analogue dial lights

Not sure there’s any need to book your car in to have your instrumentation illumination investigated - sounds like it’s working as VW intended - at least it is when you’ve not got your lights on. Whether or not your dials are illuminated is linked to the ambient lighting conditions; there’s a small ...

I dare say many forum members will have made some form of school boy error at some point during their car ownership years - me included.

No harm done, and not something you’re ever likely to do again. 🙂

Re: Washer Fluid Filter Cap - Dropped

Rummaging through the house now trying to find something that will reach! Can't speak for everyone else but mine definitely wasn't attached to the main cap. Sorry, mis-read your original post; thought the filler cap had come off, not that the filter inside the filler neck had fallen into the engine...

Re: Washer Fluid Filter Cap - Dropped

Can you attach some high tack sticky tape to the end of a thin stick or cane and remove it that way? In all my VW’s past and present, the washer fluid cap is attached to the neck of the washer fluid bottle by a plastic ring, so when you open the cap, it stays attached to the filler neck and can’t ph...

Re: GTI clutter capacity

The boot is small. I currently have the following items. Backpack Small black&decker vacuum Anti-ice spray stuff Torque wrench Went grocery shopping yesterday, only had room for 2 grocery bags. It’s real tiny. That seems smaller than my worst fears, and none of that will fit under the floor? It str...

Re: 2019 GTI+ Rear suspension type?

Out of interest where did the picture come from? It's strange with the VW brochure stating that the rear on the GTI and GTI+ is multi link and not torsion beam. It's not like its an optional extra or something that could be mistaken is it or changed at last minute to catch the publisher out. Polo B...

Re: 2019 GTI+ Rear suspension type?

The GTI and GTI+ both have a torsion beam rear axle - seen in this cutaway picture; FE06E67B-AC4C-4D22-8AE8-023D526CB345.jpeg The boot space is less in the GTI and GTI+ as the battery is located in the spare wheel well, with the spare wheel stored on top of the battery. This means you lose the lower...
