The quote was from bell.co.uk as was the 16v. It worked out cheaper as my mum was a named driver.

For what reason is insurance for the 16v expensive? Im 18 1 yr nc and had an insurance quote for the gti for £1300. I had a quote (same company) for the 16v and it was also £1300!

Did the leather seats only come in 5dr versions of the gti?

Ive never seen them in 3drs.

Are they expensive to refurb?

Is the corroding wheels a common problem?

I went to have a look at a gti the other week and some of the alloys on that were corroded quite bad.

Same happened to my Polo when i first got it.

I had a damp patch behind the drivers seat.
Turned out my door seal was broken - got that fixed and its fine now.

Just check for damp patches.

Think the 97 engine is 50bhp - they changed it in 96 i believe.

I changed mine at 60,000 but it appeapered to have been changed before by the previous owner so it maybe 40,000 but i thought it was 60,000 thats why i changed mine.
Propably no help to you at all though.
