I unplugged the cable from the old into the new one and using screw driver turned it and the car fired up!!! tried it two more times and car starts every time. The first thing I would check is compression on all cylinders. Remove all spark plugs and take out fuses for the fuel pump and ignition systems. Put the compression test kit into each cylinder and crank for 8 turns at minimum. Report back with results.

Well ignition coil helped and the car does start BUT mostly on the 3rd/4th go. Sometimes it does fire up on the first go but that's rare. Now I tried push starting it and it fires up right away, i'm really confused.

Ok I have tested all the fuses all seem great but what I also tested was the spark on all 4 spark plugs there was none. Well as you suggested yes ebay is full on ECU kits for the Polo 6n2 but they also sell the instrument cluster, does that mean that along with the ecu + immobiliser + key chip I would need to replace the instrument cluster too?

Feel like a right idiot, realised the low battery icon on my multimeter and after replacing it, it shows 14.5V while engine is running and under revs. With engine is off it shows 12.6V.
