I don't know about mk3's, but apparently mk2's almost always had a squeaky boot from new..
I've found four sources of squeaks in my boot:
Parcel shelf hangers as everyone else said. A bit of WD40 on the end of the hanger from time to time works wonders.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I thought it was just my car that squeaks, but since everyone's does I guess that's good news. I get rattles from under the car too dub, everything seems to be squeaking against everything else.
Oh well, I haven't got the cash to fix it, and it's fine on level roads ...

Squeakiness
Sorry for the vagueness here, but has anyone else experienced squeaks or rattles in the boot area when going over bumps? I'm pretty sure it ain't the suspension, sounds like the boot is squeaking against the boot seal, but I can't emulate the sound by bouncing the car while it's still, and the boot ...
