Re: Anyone Replaced the Gear Stick Gaiter on Polo 6c

Finally took the plunge and 3 hours later, successfully managed to change the plastic tatt gaiter for a leather replacement and not to put to finer point on it, what a ******* PITA it was. The first challenge was to carefully prise the 4 retaining lugs of the black plastic cup ring(which traps the g...

Re: Upgrading parts, downpipe for GTI 1.8 2016 (6c)?

Like Bepis has advised, I would speak to your insurer before installing the mods. I spent over 25 years as a senior manager for a large motor insurer looking after the claims department and looking at your planned mods I cant think of one insurer that wouldn't load your premium or reject you claim i...

Advice On Replacement Dampers For 6c GTI

Just replaced discs and pads around and the lower suspension arms ( due to the 3rd world roads in Derbyshire ) at a local garage where a good friend works and I've been told a couple of the dampers are weeping and will need replacing in the not too distant future. Whenever parts need replacing I alw...

Re: Anyone Replaced the Gear Stick Gaiter on Polo 6c

Thanks Amer6R. I am going to have a go at replacing just the Gaiter with a leather one but just in case it goes wrong I'd be grateful if you could let me have to details of the aftermarket one pictured - due you have a link. Cheers

Re: Squeaky Rear Suspension?

If the jet washing doesn't help, its possible that it could be the top mounts on the rear suspension. We had the exact same problem on my Wife 6c GTI when it was only 2 months old. Hopefully the jet washing will work as a suspension related cause wont be cheap. Good luck

Re: Anyone Replaced the Gear Stick Gaiter on Polo 6c

Thanks Chaps Ive been to VW and you are spot on Rum4mo. a rather embarrassed parts man apologised that the 50 pence plastic ring is not available separately and sheepish quoted £154 inc VAT for a new complete new gearknob and plastic gaiter. The plan is to have a go at fitting the new leather gaiter...

Re: Anyone Replaced the Gear Stick Gaiter on Polo 6c

Thanks for the replies so far. To be honest my concern is how to attach the narrow part of the gaiter to the gear knob rather than attaching the wider part to the base trim - I'd be happy to glue it. From what I can see on the existing original gaiter and on VW workshop diagrams it appears to "...

Anyone Replaced the Gear Stick Gaiter on Polo 6c

I've bought a new leather gaiter for my wife's 6c GTI as the plastic once is starting to crack and looks tatty. Looking at "How to" clips on You Tube, removing the gear knob and attached gaiter looks relatively straight forward, however I can only find clips that show the gear stick and ga...

Re: 6r and 6c GTI Gear Stick Gaiter Identical?

Sadly its definitely plastic as the top layer has started to crack around the collar and reveal the fine mesh backing underneath. Its a really same as VW has not gone cheap on the steering wheel as the leather used on that is beautifully soft and would look out of place in a car costing 3 times as m...

6r and 6c GTI Gear Stick Gaiter Identical?

Does anyone know if the gear stick gaiters on the above are identical. The current plastic gaiter on my wife 2016 6c GTI is starting to look tatty and I want to replace it with a new leather item. I've found one on ebay that states it fits all 6r Polos 2009-2013 and one on Amazon that states it fits...

Re: Polo GTI coil spring swap

I thought the standard set up in my wife 6c GTI were on the far side of firm but its a trade off I'm prepared to make for the superb handling. Having experienced the change (for the worse) in ride quality when I lowered my Mk1 Golf GTI by 40mm I cant imagine how bad the ride would be in a lowered 6c...

Re: Best cat back exhaust for 1.8 dsg 6c

I've just had the Cobra Sport resonated system fitted with great results ( my car is a manual so cant confirm it fits the DSG but I cant see why not). The tailpipes fill the diffuser cut out perfectly and it gives a nice deep tone but not too excessive. It has also provided a modest but noticeable i...

Re: VW Polo GTI 1.4 2012

Hi mate Cards on the table - my Polo is the 1.8 so I'm not an expert on the car you're looking at so I'm sure others on here will be able to give you more advice. For me the main concerns would be excessive oil consumption ( almost impossible to check ) and the DSG gearbox. Both these concerns have ...

Re: Exhaust

Personally I'd spend a few more £££s and go for a full cat back resonated system. Some of these are still fairly loud if decibels are important to you. The MOT rules changed fairly recently requiring cars to keep the original number of silencers. With a car as popular as the Polo, most MOT stations ...
