17" VW BBS alloys & Continental winter tyres 5x100

My wife has recently sold her 2017 GTI so the winter wheels and tyres are now for sale. These made the car an absolute pleasure to drive during the winter and also kept the diamond cut wheels in excellent condition as they were safely tucked away in the garage.

Rear dash cam interference with DAB radio?

Hi all,

I am looking at fitting a front and rear dash cam setup in the wife's 2017 GTi. Has anyone done this and had problems with interference with the DAB radio?

Thanks in advance.

That will raise your car 19mm! The diameter is 38mm more than before.

Re: best fitting alloy for my polo

The size you've stated will have the wheel face 25mm further out from the car that the stock 2017 GTI wheel. I'm pretty sure you'll have arch issues there.

Against your car, assuming your stock wheels are 6x16 ET38, the size you're looking at will remove 12mm clearance from the inside of the wheel ...

B&Q sell different diameter tubing on reels. You just cut the length you need and pay for it :)

Re: Help with wheels and coilovers

^^ Agree with this. An ET35 is going to push your wheels out 24mm further than they are now. That's 9mm wider than a stock GTI wheel is. This is likely to catch the arches when lowered, and if in the UK, may give you grief with the Police as the tyre cannot extend beyond the wheel arch without a ...

Re: Help with wheels and coilovers

Agree, BBS SR wheels. They look like 17s by the height of the tyre sidewall. The GTI has about 70mm arch to tyre clearance (I've just measured it) so looks like it's lowered 35-40mm.

Re: 2017 GTI wheel specs

As far as I can see, stock size is 215/40/17 regardless of wheel size. It's only approx 13mm of a difference in wheel width which is unlikely to have any noticeable difference is overall diameter to the tyre once mounted.

I was just away to delete my post I found the same answer. I've also checked, the car has rubber valves in its wheels so no sensors. YIPPEE!

GTI wheel replacement - tyre pressure monitor sensors

Hello again,

Further to my previous post on wheel specs, I've got a few questions on the tyre pressure monitors.

What issues are there with fitting aftermarket wheels to a car with TPMS? Will the car constantly complain that the sensors cannot be read? Or will it just ignore that they aren't there ...

Re: 2017 GTI wheel specs

Everyday's a school day. I'd noticed the black extenders on the rear arches but never put it down to them being there because of the stock wheel choice! :)

I've found a lovely set of BBS wheels but they are 17x7.5J ET48 but I'm concerned that keeping the 7.5" width the same and pulling them in 4mm ...
