Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences

Driving home from work tonight, was using ACC towards the end of my commute when a message popped up on the dash: 'FRONT ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE' Had one amber warning triangle towards the left of the screen and two amber icons on the right of the screen. No idea why that happened. Switched the engine...

Re: What MPG are owners getting in the real world?

New record for nerve! Pulled onto the forecourt this morning indicating 15 miles range... However, managed to get it to take 41 litres when it reckons to have a 40 litre tank (approx) to the pump click. 458 miles covered since previous fill at an average of 52mpg 15 miles left and you got 41L in th...

Re: MQ281 6 Speed Manual

VW have found that not offering a manual alternative in most markets hasn't harmed sales so that's a guaranteed £1450 or so off everyone, and the margins that come with what is a reluctant extra expense for me. I'd ha e much preferred a manual box. The DSG box is clever enough to predict what you wa...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences

ah i see you're in auto mode but have overridden the gear selection...I don't tend to do that very often as I find it annoying when it changes back into auto mode before I want it to It's more that the box instantly overrides the paddle inputs and decides how far to change down on throttle input. I...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences

If you use paddles in auto mode, your throttle response can (and in my experience, usually does) override your manual paddle selection. If you're in 6th at 45mph and floor it, the car will drop to the high revs range of 2nd, Just don't press the kick down button at the bottom of the accelerator ped...

Re: New GTI + delivery

Yea reading here kind of put me off, by the time it gets here the mk8 Golf GTI might be available! Sure, does the £15.000 also fall on your doorstep in the meantime?! You can’t compare the Polo GTI to the Golf GTI. You can. When you do, the Golf looks illogically expensive. Most of the Golf's 0-62m...

Re: About to buy - introduction

It was on Parker 17" wheels... I quite like the Bridgestone Turanza 005 tyres actually, but like with many tyres they can be very different depending on the size that is selected. PS4 are very good as well I agree but not going to swap out tyres on a brand new car...It is definitely a 2019 car and ...

Re: Preferred fix for stone chips?

I have a chipex kit for my Red Polo. Using the kit as is, I've found the blending solution pretty useless. You rub and rub for ages, with the block and next to nothing comes off. The paint itself is good for a colour match, but goes on thick. When the paint is very proud, I let it dry out over a day...

Re: polo gti 2.0 tsi noise from wastegate?

No Watergate rattle in either of my 2 GTI+, although it was an issue (and characteristic noise) on my Golf R - sounded like someone was grinding an axe outside the car.

Re: About to buy - introduction

Anyway we had a test drive in the GTI+ last Saturday and were both left really disappointed. The ride in our opinion and comparison to our other vehicles was terrible. Overly firm, you can feel every little bump in the road when sitting in the back. It never felt like it settled and was just consta...

Re: Tyre pressure adjustment

Maybe it's different for the 17 inch tyres on my car. But it feels very comfy at pressures slightly above those recommended. The 17" wheels come on Michelin Primacy tyres, which are decent, flexible, comfy tyres. The stock 18" tyres are Bridgestone Turanza, which are rock hard, noisy and inflexible...

Re: Tyre pressure adjustment

The standard recommended tyre pressures seem way too high, probably set that high to help meet an emissions target. Are you still running 215/40 R18 tyres that came with your car? When I swapped out the rock hard and poor grip Bridgestone Turanzas for Michelin PS4 225/40 R18, the tyre fitter recomme...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences

I used manual again earlier to get out of a roundabout and for a run on a dual carriageway. Paddles all the way, not into the stick shift. When you want to drop to a gear to accelerate, it's pretty easy and immediately responsive without any auto interference. When you say you used manual again, di...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences

First time I've owned an auto too, but given a choice, I'd have opted to a manual. DSG can only anticipate your wishes so far, I do still find it not doing what I want on occasion, usually wanting to accelerate hard from 45 when the car's in 6th. Going 6th to 3rd directly in a manual is a hell of a...
