Re: Breaking-in New engine
I can't see anything in the VW Polo manual. German manufacturers don't bother recommending any breaking-in period. I'm sure 99% of the reason is because they feel their engines don't need it. But maybe 1% because their roads are fast and they feel it would be silly to ask people to take it easy? Wi...

Re: Misty headlight
My left side light cluster is misted. It was picked up during the service, and it will be replaced under warranty at the next service if it has not suffered damage. That last caveat is a bit odd, so it's broken, and if I break it further, they won't replace it? Perhaps they only need to replaced cer...

Re: Breaking-in New engine
I follow the recommendations of knowledgeable people such as manufacturers: https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/running-in-a-new-car https://www.autoevolution.com/news/engine-break-in-what-you-need-to-know-91979.html Apprarently Ford recommend a ~1000 mile break in period. I can't see anything in the V...

Mine doesn’t clunk. Does that mean it’s faulty?

Re: Breaking-in New engine
I’ve asked the same question in the past and been told that modern engines don’t really need breaking in but do take it easy for the first 1,000 miles, don’t do high revs, don’t labour it, and as said earlier, avoid travelling at a constant speed in the same gear. I think the engine is rev limited f...

For brokers just go to their websites and fill in the online form, DriveTheDeal is another one, though no doubt there are more, no obligation to buy as all you will get is a list of offers from either them or directly from dealers. What I've found in general is, best deals come from furthest away d...

Re: 18 plate polo with no problems to date!
Today I got suspiciously high mpg, especially coming home. I can’t believe a firmware fix changed the mpg, so either there is low air pressure or they changed the mpg computer algorithm. You won't know for sure until you fill it. There are so many variables: air temperature, rain, traffic come to m...

Re: 18 plate polo with no problems to date!
I was getting poorer economy when the temperature was down to around 0 Celcius a week or two ago, maybe 5-10% less. It's a bit warmer now and my mpg is back up to 60+ mpg. The last refuel was 59.8 mpg. I think the longer days are helping as headlights reduce the mpg. My engine takes a few miles to w...

Re: Dangerous driving
I have film of a cyclist almost cycling into the front of my car. You can see him looking backwards whilst talking to his mate. Had I hit him, the film would have saved me from prosecution. This is an example of the paranoia that makes people buy cameras. You've already convinced yourself that peop...

Re: Dangerous driving
Glad I had the dashcam! Yup. I have film of someone driving into the side of my car. I have film of someone pulling out from a side road in front of me. Probably cash for crash. I have film of someone pulling out from a side road, I emergency braked. I have film of a cyclist almost cycling into the...

Re: Dangerous driving
Anyone can Google a name. Did you know who he was prior to my earlier post? It seems that a simple question is too difficult for you. Is there a point coming here? I knew who Wayne Gretzky is without googling, believe it or not. What's the point of asking who he is? At last. You do a remarkably con...

Re: Dangerous driving
You really are a grade one tosser. Answer the question. On second thoughts, I don't think you should be left in charge of a keyboard. Are you thick? I've already demonstrated I know of one, assuming you spelled it incorrectly and meant a 'z'. If you spelled it correctly with an 's', not a clue - wh...

Re: Dangerous driving
Did you know who he was? Did I know who he was? Like I once knew, but I've forgotten? Do you mean "do I know who he is"? Which one? Gretsky or Gretzky :? You've said 'was', which suggests it might not be Wayne Gretzky, as he's still alive. But you didn't know Colin McRae was dead, so you ...
