Re: For anyone thinking of a Polo-sized EV from VAG…….
The Škoda Epiq is now on the Škoda UK website, and I must say it looks nice, obviously it’s an ID.Polo underneath. I find the ID.Polo rather dull and Germanic, the Epiq has some character. However, it probably only gets the smaller Electric Car Grant, a heat pump is a costly extra and the free paint ...

Re: Polo lifetime
Yes I’m sticking with red paint, it is my favourite. Blue available on the top spec only is good, and black is good too. Apparently you can upgrade Renault parking cameras with a better unit, but it might not be easy to gain access to the camera unit. It has one pedal driving so more efficient and ...

Re: Polo lifetime
The R4 also gets a heat pump as standard 👍 🙂 - likely to be a circa £1,000 - £1,200 cost option on the ID.Polo (it’s an extra cost option on most - if not all - other VW ID cars).
As you’ve said, the ID.Polo is expected to get the lower level (Band 2) government EV grant. If its battery is ...

Re: Polo lifetime
Is the R4 in stock at the dealership or do you have to wait for it to be built?
Sadly not in stock, a three to four month wait for a factory build. Random stock arrives in England from France and dealers can snaffle them at will, so in theory my dealer could divert one. But it’s first come ...

Re: Polo lifetime
A quick update, today I paid a £1,000 deposit on a Renault 4 Evolution in metallic red, that’s the base spec. and the free colour. A hair under £22,000 and £10 a month for three services in three years or 48,000 miles, so £120 per service. The service interval is one year or 18,000 miles, compared ...

Re: Polo lifetime
I'd think that 10 years and/or 120K miles is a fair enough point to get another car.
I've kept a 2002 VW Polo 1.4 for 13 years and 105K miles - the body ended up showing signs of proper rusting and so many other brake etc areas were asking for me to replace lots of parts - all possible but ...

Re: Polo lifetime
The Nissan Micra EV and Renault’s R5 EV are essentially the same car under the skin (they’re both built in the same Factory in Douai, France). I note your comment regarding Renault reliability not being that great. I sold my 2020 Polo GTI+ in September 2024 and replaced in with a hybrid Renault ...

Re: For anyone thinking of a Polo-sized EV from VAG…….
I’m considering a new EV to replace a 2018 Polo. The ID.Polo has been revealed, prices in Germany are about £21k for the small battery, £29k for the larger battery, but VW might pocket the UK EV grant so those might be UK prices. We should know soon. It only gets the smaller UK grant. The small ...

Re: Polo lifetime
Thank you, I realise you’ve put in quite a bit of effort to reply, but I was really looking for first hand real world experiences. My first two super minis basically fell about at about 10 years and 130,000 miles. One was beyond economic repair. I was shocked that it took a VW dealer three weeks to ...

Polo lifetime
I have a 1 liter with turbo 95 PS 2018 Polo with 120,000 miles on the clock. Three weeks ago the ignition lock failed, so it was transported to a local VW garage. Three weeks later I got it back.3 working days, 5 real days to diagnose the fault, 16 days for VW to send the part. I wasn’t happy ...

Re: Timing belt and rear brakes
I guess I should have been clearer with my second question. I was wondering what the going rate is to change the timing belt at an indie garage in the south of England. I don’t go to VW for big ticket items, their hourly rate is absurd.
As regards cost, I consider the cost per year averaged out ...

Timing belt and rear brakes
I have a 2018 Polo, 95 PS, 1 liter turbo engine, 80,000 miles on the clock, and the timing belt needs changing. The rear brake pads (whatever they are called) also need replacing. So a few questions:
1) Should I get the rear brake drums replaced as well? It’s still on the originals.
2) How much ...

Re: Polo reliability and the latest What Car report
I think my 18 plate Polo is great.
In the first year the front wipers failed in torrential rain just after exiting the M3. Had they failed on the M3, I would have caused a nasty crash, as I literally had zero visibility. It was fixed under warranty with a courtesy car. I had issues with the ...

Re: Cam belt change
Thank you. It must however be over 80,000 miles for a change, my car is regularly serviced by VW as per the schedule.Alboyuk wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 10:21 am I have been told it is 50,000 or 5 yrs whichever comes first, I have also been told by a VW mechanic that the water pump is not driven by the cambelt so does not need changing

I can’t believe that the Tories are seriously allowing Boris Johnson to stand for PM. Whatever you might think of the Tories, this would surely be political suicide. Does anyone think this is a good idea for the Tories?
