Re: Timing belt and rear brakes

I guess I should have been clearer with my second question. I was wondering what the going rate is to change the timing belt at an indie garage in the south of England. I don’t go to VW for big ticket items, their hourly rate is absurd. As regards cost, I consider the cost per year averaged out over...

Timing belt and rear brakes

I have a 2018 Polo, 95 PS, 1 liter turbo engine, 80,000 miles on the clock, and the timing belt needs changing. The rear brake pads (whatever they are called) also need replacing. So a few questions: 1) Should I get the rear brake drums replaced as well? It’s still on the originals. 2) How much shou...

Re: Polo reliability and the latest What Car report

I think my 18 plate Polo is great. In the first year the front wipers failed in torrential rain just after exiting the M3. Had they failed on the M3, I would have caused a nasty crash, as I literally had zero visibility. It was fixed under warranty with a courtesy car. I had issues with the CarPlay,...

Thank you. It must however be over 80,000 miles for a change, my car is regularly serviced by VW as per the schedule.

Boris …

I can’t believe that the Tories are seriously allowing Boris Johnson to stand for PM. Whatever you might think of the Tories, this would surely be political suicide. Does anyone think this is a good idea for the Tories?

Re: Cam belt change

It is about 90,000 miles or every five years whichever comes first. It was 80,000 miles or five years for my non turbo 1L 3 cylinder Up.

Cam belt change

My Polo 95PS has hit 82,000 miles and is soon due for a cam belt change. When I had it done on my VW Up, I had the water pump done too. Is this advisable for the VW Polo, or just get the cam belt done? Also, any idea what sort of price I expect to pay from VW, and an independent garage? The Up was o...

Re: Apple Play- 2018

Don’t forget that you can connect via Bluetooth which gives you music and phone functions. There is a distinct difference in sound between the connected Airplay and the Bluetooth audio, the latter sounds thinner, maybe less bass.

CarPlay failure

I have a 2018 Polo, 95 PS, and CarPlay disconnects after about 20 minutes, then when it reconnects, it repeatedly disconnects after a few seconds to a minute. My iPhone X worked fine in a Skoda loan car, and I’ve tried various apple cables, no joy. VW say there are no FW updates to apply. So I guess...

Re: How far can I go after range gets to 0 miles? (1.0 TSi)

Retired man that does bugger-all mileage can't understand why someone would have an empty tank in a fuel shortage. Imagine that. That is a complete misrepresentation of what he said. Where I live, East Hampshire, the fuel shortage is real. We’ve had a juniors hockey tournament cancelled. It means I...

Re: POLO GTI+ | Police Trouble

I don't think it's totally unfair for the police to be somewhat suspicious of a 24 year old male driving a Polo GTi. I'd venture very few can afford the car, or the insurance. You may even look younger than 24, I don't know. No easy answer to this, we want the police to be proactive but we don't wa...

Re: How far can I go after range gets to 0 miles? (1.0 TSi)

Why let your petrol get that low in the first place? When the tank is near on empty, and during the warm days and cold nights, this can form condensation, and the more surface area exposed, the more condensation can form. Water and engines don't mix very well. There are many people who say "wh...

Re: Insurance accident question

Thanks MonkeyHanger. I heard from my insurer that the other party’s insurer has admitted liability. Phew. That was a close one. Three years ago the front driver side door was destroyed when a car reversed into it. Now the front passenger door has been destroyed. 😂 There’s also a dent in the B pillar...

Thank you all who replied, I'll give the youtube a good looking at and make some notes. Insurance accident question

Today I was reversing down a side road, the end being blocked, and I had to be careful as a parked van behind was extending into the road. This was a no through road, parallel to the main one. Anyway, a car reversed out of a side exit of a builders merchants into the side of my car. The insurance ag...
