Re: Winter Checkup Dealer Experience
Reminds me; had similar call from VW was I "interested in a winter air-con service for just £24.99 plus a complementary wash & valet, with a voluntary a deep-clense fee of £5.99?". I politely replied that since my car had covered an otherwise pathetic, but lockdown-friendly, 1600 miles since the las...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?
To complete the sickening 'posh kid vandal squad' tales, I was told by the cops that even when alighting from the bus back home in 'poshland' a few times a row of 'posh' cars got vandalised; every other one had either a wing mirror kicked off or a door panel kicked in, of course no-one ever saw anyt...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?
In my last 'less than great area' many cars were regularly vandalised; fuel pipes cut, windows broken (got my window replacement time down to 15 mins, man at breaker's was well impressed), lights smashed, number plates broke in half, mirrors kicked off and stamped on, one time someone broke in just ...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?
At the risk of domiating this thread, even in non-pandemic times I can go 3 days and not see my car as I cycle the 1.6miles to work, "it's out of sight, out of mind, away from prying eyes and sticky fingers", car is also 'protected' from careless delivery drivers at work. Few neighbours bother with ...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?
THIS is what I'm talking about, at the front it's literally one inch to disaster, and yes, I DO have to breath in. Garage mods include: (unseen) strips of carpet glued to right side and end walls, bubble wrapped wrapped (!) on inside of up 'n' over door in case I let hatch open fully and (can be see...

Re: SEL 1.0 TSI 95PS or 110PS?
Like others I'll say go for the 110 version if available if you know you could be towing a trailer, if not new then 'an approved used' you may be able to pick a up a recent low miles car if not over-fussy about colour or other options. And I'd get DSG if you think you will like it, I tried it on the...

Re: New mid range United spec
Don't think there's a footie connection, it's just the name VW came up with for the model. Like I still don't get why most higher end to top end VW models are named 'Match' or 'Match Edition', VW entusiasts know what it means but LX, De Luxe, 'Super Duper Mega Cool Brilliant Spec' (!) or similar wou...

Re: Stop start and braking
I disable it each time on start up on current and also on previous Golf as I find it annoying and am not convniced it does a lot of good to starter motors & electrical systems. My uncle has a prev model Polo, 1.2 DSG Match petrol, leaves start / stop to do its thing and has no such issues, not sure ...

Re: Squeaking on reverse. Clutch, brakes, wheel bearings or what?
Likely brakes, wheel bearing noise tends be a low quietish rumbling / vibration starts really becoming obvious at 30MPH or so, gradually getting worse as road speed increases. No issues on VW for me, but I once had car that ate wheel bearings......

Re: Handbrake playing up again!
I visited VW last week for a wee warranty issue on my Golf, buzzing / rattling centre vents quickly sorted, and had a chat with a technician 'concerning said issue', but really but to pick his brains on the Mk8 Golf & the Polo (!). Anyhoo he said (words to the effect that I recall on the Polo); "it'...

Re: Highline RVC Emblem retrofit
Good, patient job there and not a bad price, they reckon to be circa £300. I saw a video on Youtube fitting a RVC to a Golf, German guys but the vid is in English, they too said it took roughly a day and the biggest faff was threading the wiring. In fact they showed how they'd initially routed the c...

Re: Testing driving Polo GTI+ tomorrow
I hear all this 'comfort stuff', I also suffer from back / leg issues and interestingly the Golf (and I think the Polo) is one of the few cars I can be remotely confortable in enough to drive or ride in for a decent time. A mate once proudly showed off to me his new BMW, M5 I think, despite the leat...

Re: Polo 1.0 SE MPI 75hp review
Not a review as such, had one as a loaner once; not dangerous was ok around town but, interesting
, on A-roads, seemingly no power, later had a 1.0 litre Up! which blew the Polo away (and was fun actually
) prob a power : weight thing....
