Hi MilgeS,
Apologies, it was indeed the brake pads.
I sent the recorded sound of the reversing noise to VW.
Please ask your dealer to contact HQ. It has to be the latest software release created for this problem plus new brake pads to rectify the issue.
Hope this helps with your car noise.

Re: Help! Rear wheel humming noise. Polo GTi
Update... Thanks to those that have posted on here. Most have been helpful. Eventually, VW Germany got involved. They admitted that it is a manufacturer's problem. The T-Roc makes this noise as well. In June, the car had a computer software update for the braking system. VW HQ said this should do it...

Traction Control Button
I asked the dealer to replace the Traction Control Button to the right of the gear stick as it doesn't light up when you switch it off. After a few days, I was told that it isn't supposed to light up! This seems really strange as when you switch off the auto stop function (button immediately above t...

The car has done 4900 miles. It was bought in July but the noise didn't start until late November.

Re: Help! Rear wheel humming noise. Polo GTi
UPDATE Thanks for all the replies. I have just returned from the garage as they wanted to fix it once and for all. However, VW has issued a communication stating that not only are they aware of this issue but supplied an audio file of the noise. It resonates around 300 MHz apparently. VW has stated ...

Help! Rear wheel humming noise. Polo GTi
Hi, My local VW engineers are at a loss as to why I have a rear wheel humming sound when reversing. Initially, it was only making this noise (think of a massive wine glass low register sound that's achieved by rubbing a finger on its rim) when lightly applying the foot brake when reversing. It now d...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Changing the topic.... Our GTI has had its first repair under warranty at 1900 miles. What started as a constant knocking noise (usual check of removing everything in case it was a feral golf ball!) resulted in the car being repaired this week. The cause? Drop links. Apparently, they link the anti-r...

I noticed a difference and was looking out for it! Petrol consumption keeps getting better as well.

Re: Polo GTI Standard Headlights
Re original question....we have a standard specification GTI. There are no red lines in the headlamps because we don't have LED lights. Even the sales team agree that the 'brochure' was slightly misleading. Imagine our surprise when we saw headlamps without the red line. If you go to the thread, you...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
GTI is now 10 days old. We have done 400 miles in it. We have just returned from a two day break. I zeroed the info data button knowing I had about 40 miles to go. The route was mostly dual carriageway with a few roundabouts before petering out into the usual 30 mpg outer town road to home. I drove ...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Have just completed my first long-ish journey of 60 miles. It featured many a country lane, B road and the occasional stretch of A road. Over here in Northern Ireland (pronounced Norn Iron), driving these roads remind me of growing up in the 60s in Herefordshire. Three cars ahead of you was called a...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Sorry to hear your news Alan. It's like going to the GP only to find you're feeling better when you're in the waiting room! Your car problem could well be a rogue computer chip which replaced the old 'deiselgate' one and it's programmed to wind you up by not starting. The chip then senses when there...

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Thanks guys for your replies inc how to coast! It works. We have added to the car just the light pack as optional extras. 17" wheels. Launch Control? Select sport mode, turn off traction control, handbrake off, foot brake depressed and rev past 2000. It will then switch to launch control. Somet...
