Re: Winter tires on Brescia

Big difference in stopping distances in the rain though. Could make you glad you invested if you pull up in an emergency stop whereas you would have failed on standard tyres.

Re: Winter tires on Brescia

^ don’t forget winter tyres are not just for snow. They would be a waste of money in the UK if they were only good in snow. I live on a main road which is a priority gritting route but still invest. Any conditions where the temperature drops below +7C and they give superior performance. I even paid ...

Re: Winter tires on Brescia

I've got a set of Hankook winter Icept RS2 fitted to 16 inch alloys - not been fully tested yet but snow expected this week...very impressive tread depth and grip. Will get the summers refitted in April, might buy a spare set of alloys or 16 inch steel wheels for the winter tyres to make it easier ...

Re: Difficult to start on hill without burning clutch

Just an observation on DSG on extreme hills. The gearbox itself is excellent and I wouldn’t want to go back to a manual now and it certainly makes life easier on hills. However, as it is not a torque converter box, it still has clutches of course and as such I encountered some clutch burn smell (but...

Re: Ridiculous condensation

The latest is that VW were waiting for a part landing from Germany which was due today. It'll be early next week when I have my car back and VW think they can do it so I can still have the back camera. Halfords store manager has now made contact with VW to make himself known and to offer assurances ...

Re: Ridiculous condensation

They didn’t use sealant just tape. They have conceded straight away and will pay VW.

I’m waiting now for VW to provide a total cost and detailed report to prove the fault.

Re: Ridiculous condensation

**UPDATE**

Dealer has phoned to say that although the window is now sorted, the back camera is also causing a leak. I’m now going to have to pay for the fault to be rectified.

I’ve phoned Halfords to inform them and await a call back. Time to go into Liam Neeson mode if they refuse....

Re: 115ps 1.0L Review / Discussion

I’m happy with the 95 SE and for my driving routine it’s got plenty of power to cope. I’m glad I went for DSG over manual as I don’t encounter the issues mentioned above. The stupid stop/start is easily solved by switching it off until I encounter a situation where I know I’m going to be stationary ...

Re: passenger side footwell V wet front n back

It's all relative and personal preference. For me, I would rather have a high standard spec than pick a lower spec with options - ticking individual options is generally poor value for money as they've got negligible retained value for when you trade in - if you trade every 3 years rather than ever...

Re: passenger side footwell V wet front n back

Sorry, I appear to have offended. Im sure the SE is perfect. I actually have not driven it yet except for the drive home from the dealer. No offence as such, just adding balance because at face value, a casual observer may think the SE isn’t worth considering and doesn’t have much equipment. I thin...

Re: passenger side footwell V wet front n back

a demonstrator Polo SE 95hp manual 5 gear, very basic car, no frills. Im driving it to Nottingham next week for a few days so I will be able to do a comparison review against my all bells and whistles SEL 115hp DSG. Obviously im expecting better fuel econ less power etc but its how that effects the...

Re: Ridiculous condensation

**MAJOR UPDATE** (and sigh of relief) The dealer has phoned to report that they have found the source of the leak! It’s not the camera. It is the small rear quarter window. It has not been sealed properly and is allowing water in. The dealer will be removing and re-sealing the window ASAP and should...

Re: Ridiculous condensation

Granted this makes no difference with rain as using it would leave the cover soaked but it was useful the other week when it was frosty. The key was to have the heater and aircon pumping at the windscreen while the cover was still on. I then scraped the side windows before removing it and job was al...
