I have to say that even although I changed to a MK5 Golf GTI I do regret selling the Polo, the Golf is a lot faster and handles superbly ironically the two things the Polo GTI didn't do well from the factory however I still miss the Polo for some reason I can't put my finger on. I have seriously ...

Sounds like a wheel bearing, however if the car has been sitting the for a while could be the brakes. Are the discs looking OK all round with a smooth silver surface etc ?

Whats the sequential box from?

It would be possible to fit a Lupo engine and box into the car, but it would require such a silly amount of work...Custom peddlebox with hydraulic clutch master...Subframe/chassis modifications, possibly new halfshafts as well...

Not worth the effort IMHO...

You ...

Re: VAG COM Help!

Hi,

Can anyone tell me which cable I need to get from ebay and if release 704.1 is the right version of the software to download?

Many thanks in advance!

My understanding is none of the non ross-tech vagcom leads work with 704.1 as the leads now have a inbuilt dongle which automatically ...

I would jack it up and take the under tray off and check for the leak, could be the gearlinkage oil seal is failing this is a very common fault on the Polos box only way to tell though is to have a good poke about under the car.

Fortunately Phil helped me out with the hunt for the compressor, what sort of price am I looking at for getting it replaced?

You would be talking about £700 from a dealer just for the compressor, your best bet is to take it to air con specalist they can repair clutch faults on compressors and ...

The casings on all the Polos boxes are the same, so if you can find a 1/1.4L one you can strip it out and then put GTIs gear set in it.

Does changing gearbox oil help prevent wear? If so how do you do it and what stuff do you use?

I had the gearbox oil changed in mine twice in the 50k I owned it, the gearbox still went after I sold it. My understanding is the main weak spot is the 5th gear bearing as its plastic !! and the diff ...

I've never heard of a Polo GTI needing the head gasket done before, factorying in you would be better to change the timing belt/tensioners and water pump when the heads off I would have thought you would be looking at around £500.
