An excellent guide, thanks a lot for doing it!

One question though - do you wet and dry with 1200/1500 between the basecoat and the lacquer?

Thanks

A decent set of shocks and springs should set you back between GBP250 and GBP400. Even the standard set up of a 16v should be a slight improvement (if it will fit - different front hubs I think, don't know if that would affect).

I swapped my 306 for a Polo 6n 16v. From the point of view that ...

I had something similar with mine, but I wouldn't say it was spluttering, more just going too flat too soon. No smoke, no unusual noise, no smoke.

The problem was the VNT unit in the turbo not working as it should.

Don't know if this is any use or not, but I thought I'd mention it...

Me too. I've had no interest from Auto Trader or here (though I've had some nice comments, thanks guys and gals!) so I'm trusting to ebay...

I've not really seen any difference. I averaged just over 50mpg before and after the map. Most of my driving is to and from work (70 miles a day on single carriageway A-roads) so there's not much at a constant speed. That said, I tend not to hang about. When I've been on longer runs (motorways, at ...

I'm also happy with my shocks and springs (H&R CupKit). The car looks loads better and now actually handles. The ride's still decent, though obviously harsher than standard - I'd not call it rough though. I paid to get mine fitted, but if you're doing it yourself full kits are around £400. That ...

I've had time to sleep on that comment and I think Wardy's right - I was having a bit of a Liberace moment

Dead flies

Hello

I've had a look around and I couldn't see an answer to this (apologies if I've missed it), but what's the best way of getting dead flies off paintwork?

Thanks

Looking well tidy, man. Those wheels are mint - what are they?

I'd leave the centres as they are, if it were up to me (which of course it's not) - everyone's got black centres. Hang on, I've got black centres! Damn.

Either way it'll look mint

On the strength of all the above, black, black, black! But how does he make the reflection of Polo Cup appear the right way round on the rim? Or is that just another sticker?

Failing that, is it possible to colour code them (normal base coat and a high-temp lacquer) ? I have no idea whether this ...

Hello

I've had a look on my dodgy Portugese ebay parts CD and cross referenced a few numbers to come to the following conclusion:

We know for certain that you need new calipers, carriers, discs, pads and hubs to go 288 GT setup

9n TDIs share essentially the same brake setup as low capacity Golf ...

Definitely get some proper ones. A set off a Bora went on ebay for less than £100 not too long after I'd got mine (paid £200 for them - d'oh!). Doing the refurb isn't that hard (as long as it's only lacquer damage, which it normally is) - follow the guide on here, it's brilliant. Getting the ...
