@RUM4MO Thank you for taking an interest in my posts - your involvement has been very inspirational and encouraging I am very pleased to report that I have now resolved the issues... The charging issue was due to a faulty alternator. The battery light issue - ignition on, engine off, not illuminatin...

Re: Intermittent Battery Light - Turning Left or Right...

I would not 100% dismiss these already repaired wires Agree, I keep coming back to these wires and in particular the part which I can see has been previously repaired using the splice connectors you described. It has even occurred to me that whoever carried out this repair may have accidentally inv...

Re: Intermittent Battery Light - Turning Left or Right...

@RUM4MO Slice in new lengths of wire - maybe even ignoring the plug and socket. Thanks for taking an interest in my post - appreciated. I have been working on the car all week and have spent many hours researching the forums and other online resources. I've got quite used to seeing your name and one...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

By earthing a wire you are testing the circuit, as in your previous post your battery light does illuminate under certain conditions this seems pointless. I’d be fitting an alternator Thank you for replying and for your advice to replace the alternator (a new one is on order)... In the meantime, I ...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

The red battery light should illuminate when you key on engine off , this shows a good circuit between the alt and instrument cluster if this is not happening there is a fault This could be internal to the alt equally a broken wire Thanks, your moral support is invaluable... I have moved on quite a...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

@CarbonChaos Thank you for your advice and words of encouragement - a really good poke around this afternoon and still nothing resembling the elusive 'yellow wire' - starting to wonder if VW has repositioned this out of harms way... I am hoping a pic I am trying to upload will be successful this tim...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

Thanks for replying... any further assistance will be greatly appreciated I removed the under tray and had a really good look around, paying particular attention to the area you describe. Just to clarify, I believe I am looking for a 'yellow wire'... this isn't the first time I've tried to find this...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

Polo 1.4 TDI (UK spec) 2008... same issues as outlined - not charging. I am trying to locate the Alternator Sense Wire to check it's condition. Standing at the front of the car and looking inside the engine bay, I have noticed two connectors slotted into a bracket just behind the oil filter housing....

Re: EGR Vacuum Pipe

update: I didn't doubt your advise but I had already sent these pics to two separate VW dealers and they have now confirmed what you said is correct - there should not be any cut/slot in the pipe. As a temporary measure, I have cut off the bad section of the pipe and pushed it back onto the EGR valv...

Re: Alternator not charging solution - Polo 9n

Posts like this one are a real godsend, especially for the 'home mechanic' (like me)... I only have one of those el-cheapo OBD readers off Amazon but it's showing 17911 and with the help of this post I'm quite optimistic of being able to fix it. Thanks to everyone for contributing to date - really a...

Re: EGR Vacuum Pipe

Thanks for your help... I rang VW the other day and was told the part only comes as a set (as shown in your picture) and they quoted £66 When you look closely, that slot is so neat it looks like it's been manufactured and really should be there but this wouldn't make sense given it's a vacuum pipe. ...
