Polo 1.4 TDI (UK spec) 2008... same issues as outlined - not charging. I am trying to locate the Alternator Sense Wire to check it's condition. Standing at the front of the car and looking inside the engine bay, I have noticed two connectors slotted into a bracket just behind the oil filter housing....

update: I didn't doubt your advise but I had already sent these pics to two separate VW dealers and they have now confirmed what you said is correct - there should not be any cut/slot in the pipe. As a temporary measure, I have cut off the bad section of the pipe and pushed it back onto the EGR valv...

I rang VW the other day and was told the part only comes as a set (as shown in your picture) and they quoted £66 When you look closely, that slot is so neat it looks like it's been manufactured and really should be there but this wouldn't make sense given it's a vacuum pipe. ...
