Before the engine management light came on and the valve failure the only light that did keep coming on, but I stupidly ignored was the EPC light.

No error code to hand though as when I hooked it up it was just reporting the P0301 misfire code.

Just trying to work out why the head I put on the polo only lasted 5 months before I had the dread low compression due to an exhaust valve. The valve wasn't burnt just was sealing and as a result really low compression.

I have found a company in Cornwall who do a whole exchange head for £225 + vat. Given the trouble I have had with the head on this one I think I am just going to go down that route.

Maybe. If anything I'd have expected cylinder 1 to be bent as when at TDC 2 and 3 are well down in the block if it had happened when fitted.

I had the head refaced and new valve stem seals. Refitted using the timing tools, but as soon as I started the car it was running roughly. Stripped head off and asked the head refurb company to look and they said one exhaust and one inlet valve were bent.
