Re: Premature bearing failure?

Hi Folks - update to this. Stripped down both rear brakes with discs off, I think this gives the best indication the state of the bearing. The N/S wheel bearing sounds noisy when rotated, but with the road wheel on there's absolutely no play, so probably just the start of the wear. I've ordered FAG ...

Re: Premature bearing failure?

Just had another look at this. Pretty sure this will need a 3 arm bearing puller, so you can drive it off the stub axle. Could be wrong, I had a 2010 Fabia and the rear bearings were a dream to replace. Difference being, they were changed at 100k miles.

Any other tips please?

Re: Premature bearing failure?

I have the proper removal and refitting tool. The front was done during the summer, new hub bolt and torqued to specification. Pretty sure this is the rear. As far as I can see the rear is a case of dismantle brakes, remove hub nut and it can be taken off the stub axle. Refitting as reverse.

Premature bearing failure?

I replaced the front N/S wheel bearing last year at under 40k miles with a new FAG/SNR bearing. The car now sounds like it has a whine at 30-40mph from the rear. Car is a 15 plate at sitting at 42k. Link here: https://uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=75279 What is it with these cars? 40k is nothing...

Re: Steering knock polo 6c

Sounds like a broken coil spring. Not uncommon for them to shear during the winter. Jack up car and take a proper look. If it's a tie rod then you'd have felt this driving, pulling to side, etc.

Re: Help me repair and mod my 2016 Polo

For anti roll bar links, then Meyle HD parts are excellent. You need two jacks, and axle stands for safety. The second jack is for reinstalling. You jack under the wishbone lower balljoint to get it to line up. In my experience, even with wire brushing exposed ARB threads and a liberal spay of Plus ...

Re: 66 plate 1.4 tdi bluemotion overheating issue

Watch this, very informative. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4ukTilxezVw So turns out the 1.4TDI (and other engines) has 3 inter-dependant cooling systems, but the culprit is the waterpump on the toothed belt which is controlled by a solenoid. Sometimes the metal sheath that surrounds the impeller do...

Re: Das Welt Auto Warranty vs Modifications

I wouldn't even study the small print on Das WeltAuto's terms and conditions as there's a lot of variables under wear and tear. In my experience the main dealers can play hard ball on a new car warranty, never mind an approved used warranty depending on what they find. Their technicians may feed bac...

Re: Wheels....

Wow, just wow. Nice price. Part number is 6C0601025J (16" rims). I'd still stay OEM, not after market. So choices, Gumtree, EBay, breaker yard. You might have to buy individually. Depending on condition, you can get them refurbished to bring them back to life. Key thing is they haven't been buckled....

Re: Overtightened spark plugs? 2012 3dr match 60 1.2

I'm sure it's fine. Good call to thread the spark plug with the socket by hand. I have a Tohatsu outboard with an alloy head that was stripped. Only repair was steel inserts. I wouldn't be using a torque wrench, basically nip them up and add a smidgen of torque, less than a quarter turn. Oh, and don...

Re: New caliper or rebuild?

I'll post up more pictures RUM4MO. I bought from this seller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Duty-Wheel-Hub-Drive-Bearing-Removal-Tool-Set-Kit-Puller-Remover-72mm/302170865772?epid=1085893434&hash=item465ac9806c:g:ODsAAOSw6IFetAU4 My experience of EBay tools is mixed. No doubt manufactured in Chin...

Re: New caliper or rebuild?

Fitted the bearing today between showers. Nothing unusual. Knowing the ABS and brake dust shield would come off as I did the preparation last week was a bonus. This is an excellent video if you're attempting it. I ordered a bearing puller tool from Germany. I had to remove the drop link to get the d...

Re: New caliper or rebuild?

Prep work for bearing change next weekend. Dust shield comes off and ABS sensor pulled. This is the kind of stuff that turns a job into a nightmare. Bearing definitely goosed. Hard to turn and rough.
