Just wanted to express my gratitude to @alexperkins and everyone else who contributed to this thread. I successfully fixed the issue on my 2001 Polo 6N2 with the same procedure as the one mentioned in the OP post. Here is the picture of bad solder joint resulting in "Signal out of specification...
