If you need a key replacement in Southampton

I needed to replace a faulty key recently. After recovering from a heart attack caused by the dealer quote, I searched locally, and found Foxtech in the centre of Southampton, near the Saints football ground. They provided a replacement key and coded it into the car in 25 minutes. Convenient cafe ...

Re: Broken suspension spring

Thanks RUM4MO

Interesting and very pertinent comments. After what I thought was very careful checking it seems that the SACHS springs I ordered are not correct for my car. I asked the supplier to double check, and he came back today to say that they are not compatible, and despite being a SACHS ...

Re: Broken suspension spring

Thanks CarbonChaos, that’s helpful.

I have just ordered a pair of SACHS springs. Not the cheapest of the aftermarket bunch, but still half the VW price, and SACHS seem to be an oem supplier of suspension components to VAG.

Broken suspension spring

I need to replace a broken front suspension spring. To be safe I will replace both sides. The genuine VW parts are around £120 each. Are any of the much cheaper brands such as Kilen and Napa any good? Are there other makes I should consider?

Advice from anyone with direct experience appreciated ...

Re: Reversing bumper camera - thoughts?

Interesting thread because I would also be interested in installing a logo rvc on my wife’s Blue GT 6C. I was not interested in the bumper mounted camera because the rear of the car gets filthy driving on the muddy country lanes where I live, and keeping the camera lens clear would be real problem ...

Re: 1.2TDI acceleration issues?

Hi

It could be a slipping clutch, which would explain why the revs are going up when you accelerate hard in high gears. Not sure how the gear indicator works in your particular car, but if the indication is based on road speed and engine revs, a slipping clutch could cause the error you describe ...

Re: LED DRL that are Canbus compatible

I can recommend E M Tuning who specialise in led lighting. www.emtuning.co.uk. The chap there is called Trups, and is very helpful. I got all the led lighting for my Audi and my wife’s Blue GT from there. All guaranteed and canbus compatible.

Re: Retrofitting OEM footwell lights

Just to add to my previous message. I didn’t use modified incandescent lights as described in the article. I used led light units and wiring readily available at low cost from AliExpress.

Re: Retrofitting OEM footwell lights

I added footwell lights to my wife’s 6C Blue GT using an excellent online guide from BHP. This described two methods, one using a link to the BCM, or an easier method using a connection to the dome light. I used the dome light connection. Easy enough to do, and didn’t involve any modifications the ...

Re: MOT fail on wing mirror indicator

You don’t need to replace the whole mirror assembly, just the part with the integral led strip.

Plenty on sale on eBay for around £15, e.g.

Re: Key Batt Message

The old battery in my fob was Panasonic CR2025 (2.5 mm thick). I had a new CR2032 to hand and tried that, but at 3.2 mm thick it was really too thick to fit properly. Bought a Panasonic CR2025 and everything was sweetness and light again. This was 2 years ago, and still going strong.

Re: Key Fob Question - Urgent

I replaced the key case on my wife’s Blue GT when the original was damaged. Replacement key fob shells are readily available on eBay for around £6. Mine came with a new blank key, so I discarded this and fitted the key from the old fob. I dismantled the old fob and transferred the small pcb from ...

Re: Weird electrical problem?

I can recommend the smart chargers sold by Liberty Batteries. Quite sophisticated - 5 stage charging regime etc - but very simple to use, and surprisingly inexpensive compared to the likes of CTEK. I use mine regularly on my very lightly used cars, and the original batteries are still going strong ...

Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels

I have been following this thread with some interest, and something which seems clear is that the full VW specification for their gear oil is not available. This being the case it is hard to see how the various alternative suppliers can truly claim to have products which match the VW spec. They may ...
