Re: Stop start and braking

I have no problem with the concept but what I find utterly inexplicable is that it operates with a stone cold engine once you have travelled 0.5kms, I would think that the extra fuel consumed in this cold state actually increases pollution.
I don't arm mine until the coolant gauge is ~ 70C.

Re: Coolant temp gauge in dashboard gone crazy!

The temp gauge does not display the true coolant temp between 75c and 107C, once the temp reaches 75C then the gauge will move very rapidly to mid scale which is 90C and will remain exactly there until (or if) the coolant temp reaches/exceeds 107C, if everything is working normally, the gauge will s...

Re: Cold engine does not run smoothly

It would be interesting to see what effect, if any, that a thermostatically controlled heated air intake wold have, a throwback to the carburettor days although my first MPI car, a 2000 Bora, did have one, both a family 2005 and a 2018 Polo are a bit hesitant for a few minutes in very cold weather, ...

Re: Cold engine does not run smoothly

Re coolant temp rapid rise, all vws for the past 20 years or so in my experience will indicate 90C between actual coolant temperatures of approx 75c and 107C, this is why you never see the temperature changing even when the cooling fan cuts in.

Coolant fan maybe, quite normal to hear it after ignition switch off but not normal after running a little errand.

Re: 1.2 BMD Oil Disappearing after exhaust valve replacement

If the oil consumption has now increased since "overhaul" then its quite likely that one of the seals may have been damaged on renewal. Renewing the seals even with worn valve guides will normally reduce the oil consumption even if only temporarily.

Even the 1956 Beetle didn't need running in according to the instruction manual.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???

What coolant will you use? or will you ask your dealer as there is certainly a lot of confusion, my 2017 users edition seems t up to date??. in that it recommends G13.

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???

Yes, point taken as the expansion tank is also a degassing tank, its just that I have never experienced it and only for reading @RUM4M0,s post I would have been slightly worried at topping up with 0.7 litres. It would be interesting if one had it topped up (when relatively new) by the dealer and see...

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???

I think that my older daughter's May 2019 Leon Cupra has now stopped needing top ups - it has not been used much so I think it is just over 4.5K miles, I needed to top it up twice, so maybe a total of 0.7litre added (2 X 0.35litre). Do you mean that its normal for a new car to need top ups initiall...

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???

I rang my friendly VW dealer and they hadn't heard of this G13+, they also informed me that when they order G13 they are now supplied with G12 Evo which is pre mixed with protection to -35C so is this another way of getting some extra revenue by adding a drop of water to G13 (or whatever you are hav...

Re: What is "G13 PLUS+" Coolant???

Nowhere on my G13 container does it state using it neat, it depicts the coolant to water ratios as follows.....2:3 -24C, 1:1 -36C and 3:2 -52C. The older G11 & G12 had similar ratios. I have always used a ratio of 1:1, both when changing the coolant and the very very infrequent top ups. I use ta...
