Re: Farewell GTI

A Toyota hybrid, depressingly could be my last car before retirement so the low emissions protect against future tax regimes and the 10 year warranty should allow me to run it into the ground. It is very smooth to drive though.

Farewell GTI

Well my GTI goes back shortly and I can’t believe how quickly three years have passed. It has been a pleasure to own, relaxing to drive on a longer trip (although I have started to find the seats a bit hard) and power on tap if you need it. I’m generally an easy going driver but have found that ther...

Re: Intermittent issue polo GTI plus

Didn't feel any loss of power, but when I got to work MPG was 26 as opposed to an expected 40+. Seems back to normal coming home. My commute is 16 miles on a mix of roads so I use a mix of driving styles once the engine has warmed up, 40+ MPG, mixed driving...? Lucky if I got that in my 95bhp, neve...

Re: Intermittent issue polo GTI plus

Had what was presumably my first regen this morning at 2700 miles. I noticed that the gearbox seemed jerkier and held on to gears for longer, engine and exhaust sounded louder, stop/start and the Eco coasting thingy (don't know what it's called, when you take your foot off the gas in Eco mode but do...

Re: Long Term Ownership.

I quite agree and that was part of my thinking too...but I'm only committed to the GTI for the next 3 years. I bought my 2 previous cars outright (although they were basic models) and kept them for 7 and 8 years, personally speaking I don't think I'd be doing the same at the moment.

Re: Long Term Ownership.

It's interesting to read of other owners' experiences. I've had my GTI coming up to 12 weeks and 2000 miles, it's my first auto and first VW after mostly having basic, economical motors. Then I realised that I wasn't getting any younger so thought I would treat myself to something a bit more upmarke...

Hi Andy, yes first lease so it's been a bit of a learning curve. Thanks for your reassurances, I'm evidently being too pessimistic.

Re: New VED rates from 01st April.

It's on a lease so of course I can't and never expected to "earn" any more "dimes". What I mean is that I hope to reduce the chance of being presented with any extra bills for paintwork damage at the end. Now I'll never truly know whether I have gained or lost on the transaction,...

Re: New VED rates from 01st April.

To update my car is due to arrive soon and the VED is as expected at £540, luckily I managed to find the relevant e-mail that this had already been costed in to my deal so nothing more to pay, happy days. Mind you I have spent the 'saving' (and then some) on booking a ceramic coating at a local plac...

Re: New VED rates from 01st April.

Thanks for the reply. When I went back through all the paperwork they did list the car as emissions of 138gm CO2 which as you say explains the £330 as last year's rate would have been 210 compared to 540 now (I was a bit confused as this year's rate for 138gm is 215). It doesn't reflect the conversa...

Re: New VED rates from 01st April.

Hi new member here, thanks for the board it is full of interesting information. Back in March I ordered a GTI from a lease company which was due for delivery mid-August. Now they are saying end of August but I wonder whether it is here and the finance company want them to wait for a 70 plate, howeve...
