Yes. I tried it a few days ago and noticed that the noise happens in neutral as well.

I've got a noise coming from my car whenever I accelerate, change gears or go down the slightest of gradients. My car will emit a loud whine. (attached a link to what it sounds like at the bottom of this). It's constant. No matter how light I'm pressing the pedal the noise will be there.

My steering pump has went and I've been looking around for second hand ones on eBay but the sellers are saying to double check the manufacturer number to make sure it's compatible. My mechanic has said it's located on the steering unit.

Don't know that much about cars in all honesty and ...
