The key is all taped up, i could probably change it but would that change anything? Wouldnt think it would stop it opening

Hi there i have a 2010 polo with a bit of a dodgy key. I only have 1 key which the buttons do not work. Have been using it for a while as it still locks, unlocks and starts the car. Well it did! Now the key will not unlock the drivers door. Tried to open the door handle from inside with a coat ...
