It's a 1995 Polo 1.4 L model with Power steering no AC. AEX engine. The tensioner appears to be sold with the spring unit and is accessed from behind the alternator unit by removing the oil filter and possibly the front of the engine. I'll let you know in a few days when I have tried to get it out ...

Aux Belt tensioner

My Altenator belt's tensioner is wining and I suspect is about to go south on me. I have purchaced a new unit, however as the tensioner isn't at fault i just wanted to change the pulley.
However the New pulley won't fit the old tensioner. How do I remove this unit, It appears to have a screw thread ...

I had something simila. My water pump failed and caused the theromstat to Over extend punching the thermostat housing out locking the thermo closed, yes I bent the head.

Not according to VW and GSF. Yes you can change the Pully but I've just got a new one and it has come with the tensioner unit attached to it. If, and it's still an If right now, the new pully won't fit the old unit how do I change the Tensioner unit.

Aux Belt tensioner removal

i've found the cause of the wise on my 1.4 8v 6n. It's the aux drive belt tensioner. A 40 quid visit to GSF and i have what looks like the pully tensioner attached to a large spring. How do i remove the old one from the engine? What do I have to remove, radiator, alternator on top of the belt?

Morning Yes another Newbie here, sorry.
I have a 1995 6n 1.4l 8v wth 135k on the clock and she's still runing ok, just. Owned it since 44K.
However recently I've noticed 2 noises,
First a wining noise from low in the car, especially audiable under engine braking or heavy acceleraton.
Goes away ...
