The front wipers slow down by one stage when the car stops in traffic. My Polo is a 2015 with the infotainment screen and I used the menu on that to select the "one blip unlocks all doors" setting to match the non-variable setting on wife's VW up!.

Apologies as I don't know whether your Polo has the infotainment screen or not.
