Re: Mirror heating not working.

The obvious way to have the mirror heating controlled is via the heated rear screen, also most mirror heating is required for demisting purposes and not just de icing.

Re: Wiring heated mirrors to come on with rear windscreen heat

I had a Bora for over 19 years and a 17 year old Polo still in the family had/have their mirror heating on continuously with no problems.

Re: New pvc oil separator but still oil out crankhouse breather hose hose

Did you renew the diaphragm or is this what you are talking about? which is very important as it allows the crankcase to breathe and keeps the pressure right down, if its blocked/stuck then the crankcase pressure will build up very rapidly, the other one is a non return valve that allows a constant ...

Re: Power Steering Failing Intermittently in Cold

Unlikely to be a battery problem IMO since the alternator does the heavy lifting once the engine is running, can you plug in a multimeter or voltage meter into the cigarette lighter socket and monitor the voltage with engine idling while turning the steering wheel fully right and left (parked up, ob...

Re: Overheating question 1999

As long as the coolant tank doesn't release pressure with temperature gauge normal then, hopefully, should be OK. The modern coolant gauge isn't great for trouble shooting as all VAG group cars, certainly since year 2000, will display exactly 90C once the coolant temperature reaches 75C, it will the...

Re: Overheating question 1999

Is it still giving problems now after thermostat renewal?.
If the thermostat had failed (shut) then the temperature gauge should have gone full scale but the fan would not cut in. Did coolant come out of the expansion tank via the relief valve or was it when you opened the cap?.

Re: Overheating question 1999

Could be a failing circulating pump, ie plastic impeller vanes breaking off giving some circulation with increased RPM while driving,

Drive Battery Voltage Fault?

2005 Polo 9N (petrol) 102,843 miles. Strange one a few days ago, daughter's nearside (passenger) window would not move up/down from mid position, operated perfectly a hour later, ambient temp was ~ 25C, interior of car probably 35/40C. VCDS scan showed below fault, 5 year old battery (first replacem...

Re: Diagnosing a failed head gasket

A sticking or partially burnt valve will result in difference in pressure, sometimes a intermittently sticking valve will result in normal pressures with different tests. This won't explain the difference in your cylinder pressures but any of my (VWs) have always been in the 185 to 210 psi range, I ...

Re: Diagnosing a failed head gasket

A dye test is probably your best bet but you have to weigh up the cost of getting it done locally vs transporting it where the test will be carried out again anyway, if it proves "positive". Other signs of HG failure are excess pressure when removing the expansion tank cap or/and the level...

Re: fault code 16891 Idle control system

I replaced the TB on a 19 year old Bora "cable" operated one and didn't do any adaptation, it settled down to its normal idling speed of 730 RPM after a few miles. I just replaced it with a £35 breakers yard one with no adaptation don't know if a new TB needs it though. I wouldn't rush off...

Re: Flat battery; electric door lock will not open.

2005 Polo 9N. When the battery in this car was approaching >10 years and when leaving at the airport for longer than a week I used to unlatch and open the bonnet, lock the doors, disconnect the battery negative lead and shut the bonnet. On return, I opened the driver door with the key and reconnecte...
