the h/brake on our 9n was very high so we suspected worn out rear brake shoes (100k+ miles), but when we took the drums off there was no problem .
so we adj the hbrake cable which was under a cover behind the lever in side the car , sorted .
IMO if you don't feel confident rear brake shoes are ...

hi everyone,
seem to have a steady small leak when hot or cooling down, SEEMS to be around the fan sensor/thermo switch low down onthe side of the rad, not that i can see it clearly .
any one had this ?
?'s is there a gasket on the sensor? Haynes says it screws in/out ,

had another look tonight, clips seem tight( original spring ones i think) and as far asi can see the hoses are not damaged , however what ever they are fixedto seems to have movement in it .
i do not want to start dismantling without having some idea what i am doing/looking for

1.2 petrol AWY engine . 52 plate 94k miles (new MOT!)
was changing the oil (nice n hot) yesterday when i saw a steady drip off the heat shield , identified as coolant (tasted it, ugh!),
looked again 10 mins later and it had stopped ! ( topping up has been required for some time).

fault code : 16804 - Catalyst system; bank1; efficiency below threshold P0420 -35 -00 - -. - is this a current failure code or an old one that you have found when you scanned it?

fuel filter has been changed, looked like original one.
Brake fluid change sounds good, to be rersearched!
g/box oil ,probably leave this well alone, unless any one has other views.
Spark plugs , at this annual mileage i think i'll use the reassuringly expensive choice ...

Best you can do as a DIY thing at home is make sure it gets regular oil changes and periodic filter changes.
Decent G12 Coolant bled properly into the system.
Give it a little time to tick over on these cold mornings, its only a small engine!

preserving the motor
realised the weekend that the 1.2 6v '02 Polo (awy engine ) had done 7000 miles inthe last 3 months! so I changed engine oil and filter and flushed it .
i will do this every 3/4 months , what else should i do to keep it going?
i wondered about changing the g/box oil but Haynes doesn't show the ...

The light is still off ( fingers X'd ).
Timing chains, guides ? no work carried out on these as far as i know , should i be thinking of doing something ?
