VW are a disgrace when it comes to the gearbox, would have thought such a 'reptuble' car maker would not make shoddy gearboxes that fail after 40k miles!
Anyway, how many others have had the gearbox replaced or reconditioned?

gearbox has gone in my 1.9 SDI with 40K on the clock. going to be about 500 quid to put right.

I would advise anyone looking to buy MK5 to budget for a gearbox change, so in other words don't bother buying one!

Dunno why you would be so keen to keep your car and spend alot of money to a conversion. Alright its a Polo, there good cars(When they work), but if I had the money to do a conversion Id use it buy a new car. Its not like your married to it. fixed it guys,
turned out to be something so simple...
The ground wire was split in the wiring loom between the car and the door. Even though the motor was clicking it turns out this was the cause of the problems. All fixed now and didnt cost me anything to fix!

cant get the window down mate, it like the motor is jammed or something is stopping the movement

dont forget about the diesel engines.
1.4 Tdi (75BHP) can be tuned up to give 30% increase im lead to beleive, by just using a tuning box

1.9 Sdi (64 BHP) I have one of these good for economy, bit of torque, but if you want a fast car dont bother!

thanks for the reply mate. What exactly do i need to do with the silicon spray? Do I need to spray it on the glass or motor?

i had this problem when I bought the car, I think it has something to do with the air bag contacts. Spray some wd40 between the gap of the steeing wheel and column thing(the thing with all the indicator stalks). Does anyone know how to remove the electric window motor, Ive stipped the door down, but cant get the damn thing out. My window will not go down so Im finding it really hard to get it out. Does anyone know how get it out?

Any help will be appreciated
