I have the exact same thing on my late 2020 Polo.

I can hear it most in town when at ~17mph and the DSG decides to stay in 2nd (right on the cusp before switching to 3rd). It annoys me enough to give a little gas to "force" the upshift to 3rd.

It also happens at the top end of 3rd (~25ish mph).

For fuel consumption, I read about the GPF before buying the car, and I don't think so as my auto-start is definitely working (and I don't know why I haven't disabled it yet as it's extremely annoying in town when it stops even though you want to go one second later ...
