Cam position sensor is a common problem but I am sure they knew that too and changed this before they got as far as an ecu swap???? Generally poor electrical connections can also cause things like this. I know it sounds unlikely on such a new car but it happens as the fault triggers are so sensitive...

What car you got now ? I hope you say with VW :P Just changed my sig so its obvious now. Stayed with VW. I may ruin your day even more....sorry. If the airbag control unit has now stored crash data then its not as easy as getting the fault code turned off. You may need a new control unit or at least send it to a specialist to get it re-programmed? Hopefully though it was not enough of an impact to trig...
