The solution to this was a body control module a few software versions out of date, now updated to the latest software and the problem has gone away, thanks for your inputs.

Thanks for the model info, it’s definitely a fault and not a design feature, I’ve got an auto electrician lined up if I don’t get a resolution in here.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? My Polo is doing exactly the same thing.
