Re: Changing bulbs on a fabia...
2~3 year old one belonging to mumsy, did this without even looking in the manual. Odd because I'm sure I've heard a few VW/Skoda people saying that the more recent models basically require a dealership trip in order to swapthem. Can only assume it's something dealers themselves are putting about to ...

Re: performance ?
Insert a better engine. Seriously, this question has been asked down the years many times, I've been the asker myself, and there's not really much you can do to it that will be better in terms of pound-per-horsepower than just dropping in a whole 1.3GT lump. If this is to make it go quick whilst avo...

Re: compression results - blown HG or excess crankcase pressure?
Well, they do suffer from blocked breathers quite a lot, so that could lead to excess pressure ... that has then gone on, when your mate was driving his 1.0 in the Heroic Fashion In Which It Should Be Driven (I ruined my piston rings with the same treatment - no regrets!), to sustained high pressure...

Re: REVERSE GEAR PROBLEM
/facepalm OK, so we're not talking a "proper" mk3, but does it still have rod-linkage rather than cable? If so, the bit of the linkage that's probably to blame is a metal pole fitting into a metal tube some way forward of the gearshift, and it's exposed on the underside of the car. There's...

Re: 1997 polo 1.0 litre some power lost
Could be a number of things..... need more info! It's a right problem in a car that's only got 45-50hp and quite a heavy body though. Is it at a particular point or area in the rev band? Any particular conditions that bring it on - climate, time of day, cold/hot engine, etc? Is the engine racing but...

Re: Spare wheel question
Nah mate - if my calculations are correct that's still going to seem SMALLER in overall diameter than the ones you have on! (Definitely 105/70 profile? I think it'd probably be higher profile than that, and therefore higher diameter, given that space-savers are often like pramwheels) Therefore it's ...

Re: 1993 1.3 Polo Gearbox Oil
Yeah, no difference for an old, cheap machine - they were probably made before either standard was finalised, so GL4 is plenty protection enough. Considered good enough to be the base standard for my own yr-2000 car (though GL5 is preferred for better protection --- mind that some boxes are allegedl...

Re: Dash and rear of car rattles
You could try pushing pencil rubbers into the gap round the clocks and seeing if that helps... or a bit of copydex... or some expanding plumbers foam (careful!) the noise from the rear could be your exhaust or something to do with the suspension if you've overdone the drop! that, or... if ...

Re: 1994 Polo Instrument panel lamp out
you can do it without removing the steering wheel - i have, to swap in a genesis set - but it's a pain... but doable. just have to get the angles right, particularly when reinserting (because of the wiring connector). wooden barbecue skewers work in the place of radio tabs if needed.

Re: mk3 1.0 litre gearbox
Hello hello hello helloooo did someone call my name? Flying through the clouds of former internet haunts when rediscovering my old website I land here today. Very coincidental. I've got one lurking in a big ol' crate (that I was given an 8P in) at the back of my shed, not exactly getting in the way ...

can't think of anything except tools and a strong constitution, so long as it's just perforated! maybe a new waterpump and thermo as you may as well replace these while you're at it. as memory serves, be prepared for a pig of a job because the cambelt isn't exactly the most accessible one ever (it i...

The brakes are ALWAYS crap, thanks to the small discs, hokey drums and laughable servo. If you can manage to lock at least one of them when you stand on the pedal at 30, you'll probably be ok for emergencies, and will certainly sail through the MOT (where that's pretty much all they're testing for, ...
